Mark your calendars: Ford has something special planned for later this month.

Ford has big plans surrounding this year’s Detroit Auto Show. The company’s racing division recently released a teaser video previewing a “high-performance sports car,” along with several announcements leading up to the kickoff of this year’s racing season. So mark your calendar: it all takes place on January 15.

The big question, of course, is exactly what Ford plans to debut. The company had already confirmed that something special was coming later this month, but details were scarce. That said, we do have a few ideas.

The most popular theory points to a new high-performance Mustang. Whether it’s a reborn Cobra, a revived GT500, or something entirely new remains to be seen. If it turns out to be true, this would be the third high-performance Mustang in Ford’s lineup, joining the Dark Horse and the GTD.

That said, there are some other options. Some rumors point to a reborn Ford GT. Production of the previous-generation GT officially ended last year, making the supercar’s return entirely possible. CEO Jim Farley has also previously hinted at a 1,000-horsepower “supercar for gravel,” though that seems less likely.

We’ll find out exactly what Ford has planned when its showcase kicks off on January 15.

Motor1’s Take: Whatever Ford has in store, we’re excited. The company is going all-in on performance and motorsports with its new Ford Racing rebrand. The 2026 season kickoff should get fans excited about where the company is headed, complete with a new performance road car to boot.
