“This is a free car wash, mind you.”
There’s something deeply satisfying about finally washing your car after putting it off for way too long. You notice every speck of dirt once it’s gone, and suddenly you’re wondering how you were driving around like that in the first place.
That’s exactly the realization one woman had after pulling into a car wash for a “quick clean,” only to find out her car was apparently dirtier than she even realized.
TikTok creator Joanna (@jochervenka) shared a storytime from inside her car after visiting a Mighty Wash location, where she says she accidentally discovered just how bad things had gotten.
“Guys, I’m fried right now,” she begins. She explains that Mighty Wash offers a free first wash if you sign up online, without requiring a card or payment information. “So this is a free car wash, mind you,” she adds.
Before even getting into what happened, Joanna admits her car was in rough shape. “My car is so caked in gravel,” she says. “Y’all don’t even believe how it’s embarrassing to drive around like that.” She adds that there was even writing visible on the back of her car from how long it had been since it was washed.
She entered the car wash for the first time and immediately sensed something was off. “The people are driving my car, and I’m like, okay, why am I not allowed to leave?” she says. Instead of letting her exit, the employees gesture for her to go again.
At first, she didn’t understand what they were trying to tell her. “They look at each other and they’re like,” she says, mimicking the hand motion again. When she rolled down her window, the message became clear. “They were like, you need to go back through.”
That’s when it hit her. Her car was apparently so dirty that one wash wasn’t enough.
“It’s that dirty that it couldn’t get clean the first time through,” she says, laughing. “That tells you how bad my car was.” She says she couldn’t stop laughing as she looped back around to re-enter the wash.
When she got back to the front, the employee gave her a thumbs-up. “He’s like, ‘Alright, I got you,’” she recalls. The two of them ended up laughing together as she went through the wash a second time.
“What do you mean I have to go back through because my car was so dirty before?” she says, still clearly amused by the situation.
By the end of the video, Joanna says she’s not upset at all. If anything, she seems impressed. “Mighty Wash, y’all are amazing,” she says, adding that the experience convinced her the company actually cares about getting cars clean. She says she plans to vacuum the interior next and finally get everything “real spiffed up.”
While skipping a car wash here and there usually isn’t a big deal, letting dirt build up for weeks or months can cause real problems over time.
Road grime, dust, salt, and debris can wear down a car’s paint and clear coat, especially if they’re left sitting for long periods. That buildup can also trap moisture, which increases the risk of rust or corrosion on body panels and key components.
Brake dust and dirt can collect around wheel wells, potentially leading to issues if left unchecked. A dirty windshield can also reduce visibility, making it a safety concern rather than just a cosmetic issue.
Over time, neglecting basic cleaning can lead to scratches, faded paint, corrosion, and even a lower resale value.
