‘You’re telling me I could’ve asked for LILAC!?’
Calling baddies everywhere: Did you know you can get the interior (and even the exterior) of your car customized to any color you like, from pink to lilac to blue to yellow?
You just have to have the money to do it, and it’ll likely cost you a pretty penny. Is it worth it?
In a video with more than 1.2 million views, car saleswoman Soph (@salesdivasoph) shows what extra funds and an aesthetic vision can do for a car.
In the video, Soph explains that last week her customer, Angie, bought a RAV4. In the picture, Angie is decked out head to toe in a pink sweatsuit and pink boots, so it makes sense that she went on to request the interior of her black car be customized to all pink.
She seemed to know about this option because of another video she posted, in which a customer who got a Camry got a light-pink-and-black interior.
“We just got it back, and it looks freaking beautiful,” Soph says before showing off the bubblegum pink interior with black detailing.
“Can’t wait for her reaction when she sees it!” Soph says in the caption. “We can do any color custom leather on any car model! Send a dm if you’re in the market for a new car! And thank you to our friends at DSD for the amazing leather customization. Y’all are so tea.”
While Soph doesn’t reveal how much her customer paid, it’s safe to say it probably wasn’t cheap.
R1 Concepts reports that interior upgrades can range from $5,000 to $50,000, and that price is influenced by the materials and level of customization required.
Labor for these kinds of jobs is not cheap, ranging from $50 to $200 per hour, depending on the person’s level of expertise and the complexity of the task.
Dyna Performance points out that there are pros and cons to going through the customization process. On the one hand, customization allows the owner to express their style through their vehicle, create a more elevated and comfortable driving experience, and add functionality. In some cases, it can improve the resale value.
On the other hand, it can be costly, yield little return on investment, take up more time than a person may be willing to spend on research, planning, and execution, and potentially limit resale value if the customizations are too niche.
The overwhelming consensus in comments on Soph’s post is that customized interior is awesome.
“There needs to be more baddies selling cars bc I’d feel so much more comfortable car shopping and would probably be more influenced,” one wrote.
“Waaaaait we can request colors?!?!?” a person asked.
“Why are people shocked to know customization is extra $?? Yall new to spending?? Anything extra is possible w a lil extra money. If u can’t afford it, it’s not your time yet to purchase but others are in the position,” another wrote.
“You’re telling me I could’ve asked for LILAC!?” a commenter added.
