Fuel economy is one of the top factors for many car buyers. As gas prices remain high, people think a lot about how much money they’re going to spend at the pump. This leads many to at least consider a hybrid or electric vehicle.
When a driver switches over to an electric vehicle for fuel economy purposes, many decide to never go back to a gas powered car.
One Tesla driver recently switched back to a gas car. Now she’s wondering why she ever made the switch.
In a TikTok with over 1.1 million views as of this writing, Kiiz (@lifewithkiiz) reveals how much gas her 2026 BMW X5 holds and how much it costs to fill up.
“It’s been about three weeks since the last time I bought gas and I am feeling like it’s going to be $100,” Kiiz begins.
She shows herself filling up with 93 premium at a Shell gas station where it costs $4.45/gallon. Kiiz notes that her credit card offers a promo discount that gives her $0.50 cents per gallon when buying gas.
“I find it funny that I’m back in a gas vehicle because I drove a Tesla for like three years and swore I would never go back to a regular gas station but here we are,” she later adds.
The BMW ultimately takes 20 gallons at a total price of $88 after her discount.
“I will forever drive a BMW,” she concludes.
As fuel prices continue to rise, many drivers look to get the most out of every tank. No matter what vehicle you drive, there are ways to increase fuel economy. Driving habits and being on top of maintenance are two main ways to get better gas mileage.
Regarding driving habits, it’s always best to drive smoothly, Consumer Reports shares. It’s best to avoid harsh acceleration and braking when possible. Putting the pedal to the metal eats up your fuel consumption. And unnecessary braking wastes the fuel that was used to speed up.
According to AAA, performing regular car maintenance can help extend fuel economy. This includes getting oil changes, properly inflated tires, clean engine filters, addressing check engine lights immediately, and keeping a fuel log.
What time you fill up can also make a difference in how many miles you get per tank. Motus reports that the best time to fill up is first thing in the morning. Gasoline expands when warmed and condenses when cooled. So by filling up in the morning, a smaller dense version of gasoline goes into the tank compared to a warm expanded version.
Your Mechanic reports that visits to the gas pump should take place before riding around on empty. Driving until the gas tank is empty can cause issues with the fuel pump and fuel filters. To avoid this, it’s advised to not let the tank go under ¼ tank of gas.
Viewers in the comment section couldn’t believe how the BMW got over 600 miles to a tank of gas.

Other viewers said they couldn’t fathom the idea of a tank lasting the better part of a month.
“Huhhh, 3 weeks? I’d be lucky if my car makes it a whole week,” one shared.
“You already won once you said it’s been 3 weeks since you put gas in,” one wrote.
Additional viewers opined that BMW is underrated in the fuel economy game.
“BMW’s don’t get credit for how good they are on gas,” one commented.
“BMW manages to not only perform like a boss but it also has great fuel economy without sacrificing performance,” another added
Kiiz once posted that her BMW tank has gotten over 700 miles on a tank of gas.
