Genesis says the concept packs a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that can produce up to 800 horsepower.
It’s been less than a year since Genesis revealed the Magma GT Concept, a sleek mid-engine supercar. The automaker has been adamant that it wants to build a proper halo car, and it hasn’t confirmed anything, but that hasn’t stopped Genesis from showing off the stunning concept.
A new video from the NM2255 | Raw Car Sounds YouTube channel captures the car at a hill climb event. It’s a brief clip, but it shows the car accelerating from a standstill, struggling for grip on the greasy asphalt. Whoever is driving the GT is not pushing it to the limit, but the car slides around even at modest speeds.
The Magma has an unspecified twin-turbocharged V8 engine, and it has a nice, deep burble. Genesis has said the coupe produces up to 800 horsepower, which puts it in supercar territory, but details remain elusive.
Genesis revealed the GT’s interior in June—a leather-draped cabin with few screens and an analog gauge cluster. It looks more luxurious than sporty.
In June, Genesis took the Magma GT project even further by unveiling a GT3 variant. It had a widened track, added aerodynamic bits, and enlarged intakes for maximum track capability. The automaker called it an “independent study” that could “inform future Genesis performance vehicles.”
Just after that, Motor1 Italy interviewed Charles Fuster, Genesis Brand Director for Italy and France, and he revealed the GT “isn’t a temporary exercise.” While Fuster would not provide a “precise date” when such a potential halo car could reach the market, he said, “we’d like to get there soon.”
Genesis said a year ago it wanted a halo car in its lineup, just months before it revealed the Magma GT. The automaker has continued to refine it since its debut, which likely means a reveal is quickly approaching.
Motor1’s Take: The Magma GT Concept already looks great, and now we know it sounds just as good. If Genesis wants a halo car in its lineup that turns heads, it just needs to turn the concept into a reality as it is.
