The six-seat Avatr T09 concept previews a future flagship SUV with Changan, Huawei, and CATL hardware and more than 1,000 horsepower.
Avatr pulled the wraps off its T09 concept on October 11 at the Paris Motor Show. The number that jumps out first is the power figure with more than 1,000 horsepower from a gas engine paired with three electric motors.
The T09 is the opening act of a new flagship series for the Chinese brand, which is majority owned by Changan and battery giant CATL. It also relies on Huawei for its onboard tech, a three-way partnership that shapes almost everything about this SUV.
Avatr T09 Concept
The Concept T09 previews the international version of a production T09 that Avatr already revealed in China back in September. The domestic model is scheduled for a market launch in 2026.
The cabin seats six across three rows in a 2+2+2 layout, with individual chairs in every row rather than a bench. A wide display stretches between the A-pillars, built from a 10.25-inch instrument cluster flanked by two 17.2-inch screens for the driver and front passenger.
Chairman Chen Zhuo presents the T09 as the start of a second product identity for Avatr, sitting alongside the brand’s existing lineup. He said:
‘The T09 will now feature two distinct product series: the ‘Digital’ series, characterized by effortless luxury, elegance and sporty avant-garde design, and the ‘Flagship’ series, defined by respectful luxury, prestige and a commanding presence.’
Chief designer Nader Faghihzadeh ties that shift to the new Vision Xpectra design language debuting on this car.
‘The T09 concept translates this philosophy into a calm, confident and respectful aura, expanding our ‘effortless luxury’ into the broader realm of ‘respectful luxury,” he said.
At roughly 17.1 feet long and 6.6 feet wide, the T09 is built to go up against three-row luxury mainstays like the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q9 and BMW X7. It’s expected to land around the 500,000-yuan mark (about $70,500).
Power comes from an extended-range hybrid system built around a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine working alongside a trio of electric motors, a setup Avatr pairs with front and rear axle motors for all-wheel drive. The combined output tops 1,000 horsepower. The stronger configuration reportedly pairs a 208-hp gas engine with three motors rated at 241 hp, 302 hp and 302 hp apiece. Top speed is pegged at 137 mph.
Energy comes from a 71.24-kWh CATL Freevoy battery, a chemistry built for extended-range hybrids that blend strong electric-only driving with a combustion engine for longer trips. Regulatory filings in China indicate a pure-electric range of roughly about 186 to 205 miles on the CLTC test cycle for plug-in hybrid versions using this pack.
None of these specifications are confirmed for international markets yet, since Avatr has only released certification data tied to the Chinese-market car.
The Paris car shares its basic shape and dimensions with that Chinese T09, but Avatr hasn’t detailed powertrain tuning or equipment specific to European or other overseas buyers. Reports around the Paris show describe the concept as a preview of a future export flagship, with some speculation about a possible launch after 2027.
