Alfa Romeo’s new Cuorerosso concept previews a future with fewer giant screens and more physical controls.

Alfa Romeo thinks modern car interiors are starting to look too similar (ie, boring). And we agree. So rather than following the industry’s obsession with bigger touchscreens and fewer buttons, the Italian automaker aims to pave its own path.

Speaking with Autoblog at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Alfa Romeo Head of Product Daniele Chiari criticized the technology overload found in most modern cars. With the debut of the new Cuorerosso concept, the company wants to “detox” its interiors and give drivers something that feels more distinctive.

As Chiari puts it:

‘What we want to do is to detox our interior. All of them have a small screen, big screen, two cup holders, and a flat console. That’s it.’

Alfa Romeo Cuorerrosso Interior

The Cuorerosso concept offers a preview of how Alfa Romeo could rethink its interiors. One of its standout features is the Cannocchiale Vivente instrument cluster, inspired by the twin-dial gauges found in classic Alfa Romeo models.

The two displays remain separate during normal driving but can physically move together to form a single instrument cluster when the driver wants a more focused view.

The center display is unique, too. Alfa Romeo calls it the Magma Display, and rather than mounting a traditional tablet-style screen above the dashboard, it integrates a digital touch surface directly into the center console.

When the car is switched off, the display blends into the surrounding surface. Turn it on, and digital information and controls appear. The setup also includes a rotary dial, a drive-mode selector, and physical toggle switches, combining modern technology with more traditional controls.

Unfortunately, the Cuorerosso itself won’t make it to production. But Chiari confirmed that some of its technology will find its way into future Alfa Romeo models.

The upcoming Giulietta hatchback looks like a likely candidate. It’s expected to be the first Alfa Romeo to adopt some of the Cuorerosso’s design cues, including exterior styling inspired by the concept and elements of its more distinctive interior.
