The automaker plans to launch nine new models with prices starting under $40,000.
New car prices continue to hover around $50,000, and the selection of affordable ones continues to dwindle. Stellantis is trying to counter those rising costs with several new models priced under $40,000.
At this week’s Automotive News Congress in Detroit, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said that there is a “huge opportunity” for Stellantis to launch more affordable models, according to The Detroit News. The automaker plans to introduce nine new cars with prices below $40,000.
Today, the Jeep Compass is the automaker’s cheapest offering in the United States, if you don’t include the Fiat Topolino, which isn’t comparable to a street-legal car. The Jeep technically starts at under $30,000 if you don’t include the destination charge.
Chrysler Airflow Leaked
Back in May, when the conglomerate revealed its new roadmap, Stellantis announced that nine of its 11 new vehicles planned for North America would cost under $40,000. Two of them would cost under $30,000.
The new Chrysler Airflow will be one of those models, starting under $40,000. It’s a mid-size SUV. The brand is also getting two new compact options, the Arrow and Arrow Cross, with the cheapest variant expected to start around $25,000.
Ram will introduce the Rampage in 2028, which is expected to compete with the Ford Maverick. Ford’s compact truck starts under $30,000, and Ram’s MSRP should be similar, even though it’s still a small market. The brand is also reviving the Dakota, which should slip under $40,000.
Filosa said Stellantis wants to be “relevant and strong” compared to Ford and Toyota, name-dropping the Tacoma.
The Dodge GLH could be another one of Stellantis’ affordable models. It’s a mid-size crossover that Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said in August is aimed at the “sedan, hot-hatch-type market.” It could start under $40,000.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer production at Warren Truck Assembly Plant
Last year, Jeep resurrected the Cherokee as a hybrid. It has a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a two-motor electronically controlled continuously variable transmission producing a combined 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque, but that’s not all.
Jeep is also planning to launch an extended-range electric-vehicle version of its Grand Wagoneer, which uses a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine as a generator to recharge the battery pack. It will reportedly enter production next month, and it won’t be Stellantis’ only EREV.
Ram will allegedly start producing the Ram 1500 REV in April 2027, after revealing it over three years ago. Filosa said the automaker’s EREV powertrain is “perfect” for “a niche of customers.”
