“The Matrix is crumbling.”
An Idaho man driving by a car dealership took a photo of a Chevrolet truck so he could share the price with his wife. Except when he tried to show her the photo, the vehicle’s signage said something completely different. What happened?
TikTok creator Suburban Dad (@suburbandaddyy) posted a video with his Chevrolet conspiracy theory yesterday. In the video, he says, “So today when I was driving home from work I was driving by a car dealership. I saw a nice truck.”
The truck was so nice, he decided to snap a photo so he could show his wife the price tag. It’s a bit hard to see, but he zooms in using his phone and takes the photo. He sees that the price is $54,995.
He continues, “So just recently I go to my phone to show my wife and I zoom in and the numbers and letters are all translated.” He cuts to the image, where you can see the writing on the piece of paper is indeed illegible to the naked eye.
In the video’s comments section, viewers reacted to the mysterious occurrence and offered their own theories about what happened and about similar strange experiences.
“The Matrix is crumbling,” said one.
“Dude, that’s similar writing to the Dead Sea Scrolls,” said a second person. “Look it up and compare. This is wild.”
A third viewer said, “Inflation in vehicles is so bad the prices are now in Klingon!”
Another person said they also had a weird experience with technology recently. “I was using my Waze app to drive home from work, and had the directions set to home,” they wrote. “During the drive I thought I’m gonna stop and grab something to eat. As I got close to the highway exit, the app gave directions to get off at the next exit. Somehow my Waze was now set to go to Wendy’s. I never put in that address and didn’t even know what it was. Somehow it knew where I was heading.”
Other viewers offered a reality check. “You have an iPhone?” one person asked. “All my pictures seem to get smoothed and altered. Annoying.”
“That’s AI doing a translation on your picture,” a second person said. “I’ve seen this happen before.”
A third person explained, “This is likely the result of AI background tainting things in the photo that it can’t resolve. You have AI running somewhere related to photos and AI is often terrible at resolving/translating text in photos (unless it is clear and focused).”
No, this isn’t a paranormal event, and it is related to Apple’s machine-learning system for managing and enhancing iPhone users’ photos. The Enhanced Visual Search feature analyzes the metadata of users’ photos, which is how it organizes your photos based on vacation and person of interest.
Of course, machine learning is machine learning, and that process can sometimes result in rendering issues. That is where you get people reporting that their photo of a sign was clear and then all of a sudden the wording came out jumbled and weird.
