A woman recently crashed out about the design of the cup holder in her Honda. Unfortunately for her, the internet is on Honda’s side here.
TikTok creator Yoshhi (@soyyoshhi) took a video inside of what appears to be a Honda Civic. The issue is immediately clear: The cup holder area is essentially an empty compartment, which means the coffee Yoshhi is attempting to put there is spilling everywhere.
“Honda, whoever designed this cup holder needs to be fired. My latte is already $9 in Seattle and I can’t even keep it,” Yoshhi wrote in the caption.
In the comments section of the video, viewers quickly informed Yoshhi that this is not a Honda design issue. Rather, as several people pointed out, she is missing the actual cup holder that is supposed to fit inside that compartment.
“You’re missing the piece,” wrote one person.
“Ohhh, mamas, you need part number 83434-T20-A01ZA,” a second person advised.
A third person said, “If it’s a Civic, there’s a plastic, two-slot cup holder that should be sitting on there.”
In a response to a comment, Yoshhi revealed that she bought the vehicle used and it did not have the cup holder when she got it.
Another person said, “Finding out you’re missing the piece has me cackling.”
A search of the Honda OEM Parts Online platform brings up the console cup holder for the Honda Civic between model years 2022 and 2025.
According to a 2019 press release from Honda, the company redesigned the 2020 Civic Hatchback to include a new center console cup holder that can better hold larger beverages. One reviewer said the improvement is “quite useful.”
Experts attribute the shift in cup holder sizes to the fact that cars in the US are generally getting larger and large water bottles like Stanley cups are surging in popularity.
If your cup holder is still too small for that 40-ounce guzzler, there are aftermarket accessories that accommodate those big drinks.
The need for larger cup holders is the subject of some debate. Earlier this year, one person wrote on Reddit, “Cars don’t need large cup holders.” Commenters pushed back—hard. “You can make a big cup holder smaller,” wrote one person. “You cannot make a small cup holder bigger.” A second person said, “Why does every other country hate being hydrated?”
However, several car owners agreed with the thesis. “That’s always going to be a problem with car reviews,” one person wrote. “Bigger will always seem better to a lot of consumers. At some point, though, things do cross a line and go from utilitarian to gluttonous, imo.”
