“Don’t hit him up.”

A couple is picking up steam after revealing how they keep tabs on each other during the workday, in a way that some viewers found amusing and others found a little much.

Lalo and Nat (@laloandnat), who run a couples account, shared a video of Nat FaceTiming her boyfriend while he’s on the job as a mechanic. The on-screen text on the TikTok sets the scene simply: “POV: You’re a mechanic’s girlfriend.”

In the clip, Nat appears to be calling in from somewhere else while Lalo works in the shop. The video suggests she’s checking that he’s doing okay, staying busy, and not chatting with anyone he shouldn’t be. At one point, Lalo looks up from his work and gives her a quick nod.

“Love being in his toolbox,” the couple wrote in the caption. “Don’t hit him up.”

The post quickly drew a mix of reactions from viewers, with some finding it sweet and others questioning the dynamic. As of this writing, the video has racked up more than 397,700 views.

There’s no evidence suggesting mechanics have a wandering eye more so than, well, anyone else.

That said, plenty of divorce attorneys, surveys, and anecdotal reporting have tried to link higher levels of infidelity to certain job types, usually ones with long hours, odd schedules, or time spent away from home.

Unfortunately for mechanics, men in trades are often viewed as the most likely to cheat. But Isabella Mise, director of communications at Ashley Madison, told the Independent that the idea behind this has less to do with the job itself and more to do with access and opportunity. When someone works late nights or isn’t on a predictable schedule, it creates more opportunities to hide things.

Then again, there’s other research showing the opposite, suggesting that men with prestigious jobs (e.g., lawyers, college professors, and executives) have the highest infidelity rates.

Of course, that’s a long way from saying mechanics, specifically, are more prone to cheating. Most relationship experts point to the same factors over and over again, regardless of profession.

At the end of the day, cheating is a personal choice shaped by individual behavior. A mechanic who wants to be faithful will be—but the same goes for a lawyer or doctor or janitor, too.

The comments section filled up fast, with viewers split on whether the dynamic was cute or too over the top. At least one person suggested that Nat might be overdoing it.

“Talk abt mirco managing,” one user remarked.

Others zeroed in on Lalo’s on-the-job moment, particularly a clip where he appeared to struggle while replacing a tire.

“Buddies struggling with a 40 lb tire,” one commenter cracked.

“Why he struggling so much with it tho,” another chimed in.

“Struggling to pick it up,” a third added, punctuating the observation with a skull emoji.

Still, plenty of people jumped in to say the setup didn’t seem strange to them at all. Some said they’re in similar relationships and actually enjoy the extra company while working.

“My bf just sends me random videos of what he’s working on or doing,” one woman shared.

“I work in the front and he works in the back, so whenever I get bored I just go back there and watch him,” another mechanic explained.

“I am a mechanic wife and I run the office at his work place lol,” a third commenter noted.

“I have my girl on my tool box too,” someone else added. “Same box by the looks of it.”
