‘Every mechanic I know that worked [there] hated that place.’
A woman is blaming a Goodyear Auto Service for the engine problems in her 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately, the issue might actually be her responsibility.
TikTok creator Court Neylynn (@court_neylynn) recently took her Jeep to a Goodyear Auto Service in Orlando, Florida, because the check engine light was on.
She said she was told her water pump was leaking, and she agreed to pay to get it replaced. After she picked up the car and drove it a couple of miles, she said, she noticed a plume of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. However, because she trusted the Goodyear technicians, this didn’t alarm her.
The next day, she drove her kids to school and noticed that the car was leaking water. She took a picture, but didn’t immediately address the leak. The next time she got into the car, it wouldn’t start. When she took it back to Goodyear, she was told that it had blown a head gasket and needed another roughly $3,600 in repairs.
Neylynn blames the Goodyear technicians for the issue and questions whether they test drove her vehicle after the initial repair to make sure it was complete. To make matters worse, Neylynn said she attempted to file a claim with the company’s insurance and was denied.
In the comments section, several viewers weighed in on who is really at fault in this situation.
“Sounds like you blew a water pump, ran with it afterwards, which overheated the block and blew the head gasket,” wrote one person. “Not something you’re supposed to bring to a tire shop.”
Neylynn replied that she couldn’t include every detail in the seven-minute video, but she said she and her husband have “100% proof of negligence on their part.”
A second person asked, “Why would you drive it after seeing all the fluid underneath? No car does that unless something is really wrong.”
And a third person said, “Unfortunately, you overheated the vehicle. You should have had it towed back the minute you saw the gauge pegged hot or the coolant on the ground. You can’t continue to drive like that. Good luck with the lawsuit, though.”
It is absolutely a red flag for coolant to be leaking out of your vehicle, because coolant is necessary for keeping your car’s engine working properly at a reasonable temperature. Mechanics recommend immediately taking an overheating car to the repair shop before the high temperatures result in serious damage to engine components, including head gaskets. So, yes, the smoke absolutely should’ve signaled to Neylynn that something was seriously wrong.
And, yes, technically, if a mechanic does damage your vehicle, it is possible to sue them for damages. However, it is an uphill battle because you have to prove without a doubt that the mechanic is the one responsible. In this case, it might be a legal gray area at best since Neylynn admitted to driving without coolant.
Meanwhile, Neylynn fulfilled her promise to picket the business with a sign that accuses Goodyear of blowing her engine.
