“Call the cops and tell them you’re breaking the window.”
A man stumbled upon two dogs stuck inside a parked Chevrolet Silverado. Some turn a blind eye in these situations. But he decided to take action.
In a TikTok with over 14,600 views as of this writing, Chris Sanchez (@chrisasanchez4) films the two dogs inside of the truck on a 100-degree day.
“I’m walking out of my car and I see this guy right here. Two of them,” Sanchez begins.
Upon leaving a casino, Sanchez approached a Chevrolet Silverado in the parking lot. You can see two dogs inside.
“What’s up buddy? Are y’all hot?” Sanchez says.
The dogs prance back and forth towards the slightly cracked window. As he talks to them, they keep pressing against the window.
“Man, this is crazy. I think I’m gonna report these guys because this ain’t cool,” Sanchez says.
“This ain’t cool. Alright guys, I’m gonna get you some help. It’s like freaking 100 degrees out here,” he continues.
In comments, he says he told casino security about the dogs inside the truck and that they found the owner and kicked them out.
Leaving a dog inside a parked car is dangerous, even deadly, per the ASPCA. That’s why it’s illegal in 32 states and in Washington, DC.
On a sunny day, internal cabin temperature can drastically increase in a short amount of time. Research has shown in just 10 minutes, the internal temperature can increase to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. In just one hour, a vehicle’s internal temperature can increase over 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the American Veterinary Association, cracking a window doesn’t help; pets can still get extremely sick or even die.
Symptoms of a heatstroke in dogs include drooling, stupor, mild weakness, excessive panting, difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, or collapse, the ASPCA reports. When temperatures rise beyond 104 degrees, dogs may experience more serious symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and seizures.
The American Kennel Club urges people to simply leave their dogs at home when possible and to never leave them in a parked car.
Many viewers applauded Sanchez for intervening on the dogs’ behalf.
“Thank God you helped them,” one person wrote.
Sanchez replied, “I’m just grateful I was there before it was too late.”
Many felt sympathy for the dogs inside the truck.
“Poor babies,” said one.
“No, not cool at all,” another added.
“No way! I love the casino, but LOVE my dog more! Poor doggies,” one shared.
Several suggested that people should call the authorities if they see animals inside parked vehicles.
“Call the cops and tell them you’re breaking the window,” one wrote.
“Oh [expletive] no call the popo now,” another agreed.
