Every CC850 delivered in the US has a parking brake ‘defect’ that could allow the hypercar to roll away.

A typical automotive recall by a standard automaker usually involves tens of thousands, or up to hundreds of thousands of vehicles (or more if you’re a certain automaker). Those numbers shrink when we’re talking about high-end sports car or supercar manufacturers. The numbers are almost laughably small when you’re dealing with Koenigsegg.

Koenigsegg produces its cars in small batches. One model on offer is the mighty CC850, a road-going jetfighter with a four-figure horsepower count and a chameleon-like gearbox that’s both manual and automatic. And all seven examples sold in the US for the 2025 to 2026 model year have just been recalled. Whoops.

Koenigsegg CC850

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Koenigsegg has issued a recall notice related to a parking brake defect. The CC850 uses an electronic parking brake and, under certain conditions, it can fail to engage properly.

An owner discovered this issue when he put the car into reverse with the engine running, attempted to use the parking brake, and stepped out of the vehicle. It promptly rolled away.

Now, I’m no mechanical engineer, but it sounds like this is a case of user error and an embarrassed Koenigsegg owner. Why would you leave your car in gear and then step out of it while it’s also parked on an incline, per the report? Put the car in Park. Problem solved.

The automaker will update its parking brake control software via an over-the-air update. This will, of course, be free of charge. And the owner can download the fix directly to the car, or take it to a dealer to have it applied there.

Still, it makes you wonder: Is this an actual problem, or is Koenigsegg making sure one of its buyers feels a bit less foolish? I’d love to sit in on the meeting where the team at Koenigsegg had to discuss this and decide on a course of action…
