Third-quarter US retail sales rose 6.8 percent as Rogue, Frontier, and Armada carried Nissan’s momentum.
Nissan’s US retail sales rose 7.8 percent year over year in the third quarter of 2026, and the brand says it has now logged 19 straight months of year-over-year retail growth. The company credits trucks (er, truck) and SUVs for the run.
Nissan division posted 196,018 retail sales for the quarter, a 7.8 percent gain over the 181,802 sold in the third quarter of 2025. September retail sales alone jumped 13.2 percent from a year earlier, extending a streak that started well over a year ago.
2026 Nissan Armada Nismo
Total sales, which include fleet, came to 226,474 units, up 1.4 percent year over year. Nissan said its rental fleet sales fell 45 percent in the quarter. The pullback leaves the retail figure as the more telling number for shoppers.
Tiago Castro, senior vice president of US marketing and sales for Nissan and Infiniti, said in a statement: “The most important part of this story isn’t simply that we’re growing; it’s how we’re growing.” He added that the company is “attracting more retail customers, improving loyalty and gaining momentum in some of the most competitive segments in the industry.”
Nissan says it has been the fastest-growing mainstream brand in the country for 13 consecutive months, and dealer profitability posted solid year-over-year gains in the quarter. The numbers arrived the same week Automotive News reported that the broader US light-vehicle market grew between 6 percent and 9 percent in September, while the industry’s third-quarter volume was expected to be roughly flat to down by up to 1 percent.
Nissan’s result sits inside a market that was essentially treading water, and the brand’s own recent US sales gains have followed a similar pattern since the streak began.
2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid
Three nameplates did most of the heavy lifting. Frontier retail sales climbed 44 percent year over year, Rogue retail sales rose 41 percent, and Armada retail sales increased 42 percent, according to Nissan’s own figures. Pathfinder posted its second-best third-quarter retail performance on record.
The redesigned Rogue is about to get another push. Castro pointed to the 2027 Rogue Hybrid, saying “that combination gives us confidence as the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid begins to arrive in dealerships this November.” The timing puts a hybrid variant behind Nissan’s best-selling crossover just as the current streak extends further.
Infiniti added to the picture with its own 21 percent retail increase, the brand’s best third-quarter showing since 2020. The QX60 remained Infiniti’s volume leader, while the QX65 grew 22 percent from August to September and made up 32 percent of the brand’s September retail volume. The QX80 turned in its best-ever September and third-quarter results.

Nissan is also targeting a scenario where about 80 percent of the vehicles it sells in the US are built domestically by 2030, a goal that lines up with the truck and SUV models now carrying its sales growth. The company’s broader lineup reduction of 11 models has left fewer nameplates to carry the load, which makes the concentration in Rogue, Frontier and Armada more pronounced than it might otherwise look.
For dealers, the mix of higher-margin trucks and SUVs, lower rental fleet exposure, and a new hybrid offensive with the Rogue raises an obvious question: how long Nissan can defend this retail streak if the overall market stays close to flat.
