“Keep receipts and sue like 1000%.”
When you go into the auto shop for routine maintenance, the most annoying thing you might expect is a long wait time or having to haggle over a quote that you know is too high.
But you at least have the peace of mind that when you leave your car in a mechanic’s hands, it should not only be safe but also come back to you even better than before.
That’s far from what happened to this guy. While mechanics are only human and mistakes are bound to happen, how a situation is handled is the mark of an honest repair shop. And this customer was far from happy.
In a TikTok that has since been deleted, content creator Ryan (@realcoloradoryan) explains that he took his truck to the Discount Tire in Monument, Colorado, to have its tires rotated.
While they did the job, a terrible accident happened, he says.
“They let it down off the jacks, and they snapped my front coilover on my passenger side,” Ryan says.
When he turns the camera toward his SUV, which is already sitting on a tow truck’s bed, the vehicle is visibly tilted, with one side sitting lower than the other.
“And there it is being loaded onto the truck,” he says. “You can see how it’s kind of leaning there.”
Ryan added that the shop’s manager or owner brought him into the work area but didn’t have much of an explanation or solution.
“Well, I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve never seen that before,” Ryan reports the man saying. It does not seem he took accountability for the accident.
“He kinda looked at me like I was a [expletive], so now I gotta [expletive] tow home, get it fixed,” he says.
In the caption, Ryan claims the tire technicians lifted the truck from the wrong jack point, dropped it, and snapped the front coilover or strut.
“Didn’t even offer to pay for the tow or to have it fixed. Absolute TERRIBLE service from #discounttire in monument Colorado. Extremely disappointing,” he added.
CarParts.com notes that mechanics can make honest mistakes, particularly when they are overworked or lack the training needed for a job.
Before accusing the shop, they recommend taking a breath and confirming the facts first. That may mean asking someone knowledgeable about repairs, researching the issue, or getting a second opinion.
Then, contact the shop directly, explain the concern, and ask how it plans to fix the situation. CarParts.com says a shop that acknowledges causing damage should repair it at no additional cost or provide a refund.
Sue.com says these disputes often come down to documentation. They recommend taking the following steps:
People in the comment sections couldn’t seem to agree about who was at fault.
“Jack up and lower vehicle will not bust your coil over something else happened and your blaming them!” a top comment read.
“How fast could they have possibly dropped it,” a commenter wrote, then adding, “Also don’t act like they aren’t paying for it they would also send it to a shop to fix it.”
“Keep receipts and sue like 1000% cause they are liable for damage when running a shop,” another suggested.
